About

PAST TO THE PRESENT
I was brought up in the village of Colintraive in the Kyles of Bute where I have now re-settled happily after experiencing other cities and countries over the past 15 years through work and travel. For me, it’s a hard place to beat for the people and scenery. The sea, the fresh air and fantastic landscapes inspire you to admire nature, to enjoy the great quality of life on offer here and to lean towards a healthier lifestyle.
I was first impressed by Aromatherapy in the 80’s when my mother was suffering from what is now known as polymyalgia rheumatica. At one point she could only walk with the aid of two sticks when this virus, which attacks groups of muscles in the body, was at its worse. Aromatherapy was the only thing outwith heavy medication that gave her any relief, her movement was markedly improved after a treatment and that impression stayed with me.
I began studying for my Aromatherapy diploma in 1999 and started practicing in evenings as soon as I qualified (as well as keeping on my day job). Reiki soon followed, as once you get the taste for therapies, you just want to know more and more. Reflexology was added to my qualifications in 2002 and I went part-time in my then day job to accommodate my wish to work more in the therapy field. I was working as a part-time freelance therapist in Woodland Herbs, a Herbal Dispensary in Glasgow at this time and also did a season at Stobo Castle, the well known health spa in Peebleshire, 2 days per week for the experience. I got my diploma in Indian Head Massage in September 2005 and then qualified in Emotional Freedom Technique in July 2007. 2008 has been a huge year for me so far, not only have I got married and become Kirsteen Black, I have also qualified in Hydrotherm Massage, Hot Stone Massage and Hopi Ear Candling.
The Pure Therapy treatment room is now at my home in Colintraive where I have been based since August 2004. Since then I have also developed my range of Bare Essentials Aromatherapy products to extend my clients’ enjoyment and self-treatment to their own homes and to share with family and friends. Please go to the Products section for a look at this tried and tested range.
